Gyro Republic, the fast casual eatery known for its customizablehalal eats, is set to make its first debut inMissouri City. The chain is no stranger to southwest Houston, with three other locations in Richmond, Sugar Land and Sharpstown.

Details about the new location, including its opening date, are sparse. According to Google Maps, it looks like it will be at 23040 Fort Bend Pkwy Toll Rd., though this location has not been announced by the franchise itself.

Diners can expect counter service with a choice of proteins and veggies, including chickpeas, falafel and tzatziki. You can choose from several base options, including bowls, salad, pita, loaded fries and a “gyrito”, which is Gyro Republic’s version of a burrito.

For the new Missouri City storefront, Gyro Republic will offer new menu items which include spicy ghost pepper hot sauce, as well as spicy roasted pepper hummus and avocado hummus.

Founded and owned by Rehan Ranpuri, the franchise is based in Houston and is inspired by New York City’s halal food carts. Ranpuri actually traveled to the Big Apple to perfect his gyro recipe, which they call an “authentic NYC-style gyro”. According to the restaurant’s press release, the perfect NYC gyro is characterized by cubes of gyro meat (not like the typical sliced) and a creamy white sauce and red hot sauce.

The franchise is set to open six more storefronts later this year.

“The goal is that together we can one day serve Gyro Republic’s high quality, healthy meals across the globe,” Ranpuri said in a press release.

Halal fast-casual eateries have been growing throughout Houston’s food scene in recent years. Popularhalal taco joint Dripped Birriahas seen arapid expansion in recent months, opening locations across Houston.
