British Swim School to Open New Location in Michigan
Husband-and-Wife Duo Make Waves in the Water Safety Space in Shelby Township
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – (September 8, 2022) – British Swim School, the nation’s leading “learn to swim” franchise company, continues its rapid expansion across North America with the opening of its newest franchise location inside LA Fitness Shelby.
New British Swim School franchise owners, Leah and Jack Snider, saw this opportunity as a great way to spread awareness about water safety while growing a business that can be passed down to their two children one day. As a family that loves to swim and boat in the summers, British Swim School is the perfect fit for the Sniders.
“We looked at some other franchise opportunities in the youth education space but felt British Swim School’s mission of “Survival of the Littlest” spoke to us,” said Jack Snider, co-owner of British Swim School of Utica-Troy. “We want to ensure children are safe around all bodies of water while also having fun. As parents to two young children who love to swim, we understand the importance of water safety.”
Some staggering statistics from the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, a nonprofit dedicated to tracking Great Lakes drowning data, show that at least 33 people drowned last year in Lake Michigan waters, outpacing years past. This is the highest number of drownings since 2013.
The Sniders have a summer cottage on the lake and say that spending at least a month out of the year on the water is both fun and relaxing, but without the peace of mind that both children can swim, summers would look a lot different.
“I want all families to be confident when they’re by the water like us,” co-owner Leah Snider stated. “That’s why our mission is to teach children survival skills but incorporate as much fun as we can.”
For over 40 years, British Swim School has been using gentle instruction methods and a survival-first approach when teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills they need to swim safely. Not only is the focus on safety but also encouraging students to truly enjoy swimming!
British Swim School of Utica-Troy will give area children an opportunity to learn life-saving skills. As the school grows, it will also offer classes to adults who want to learn to swim or improve their stroke technique.
“The Snider family is an exciting addition to the British Swim School family,” said Ashley Gundlach, President of British Swim School. “Their focus on safety and fun for children of all ages is something we know will draw swimmers to this new location. Being parents themselves and wanting their children to be a part of the growth process, is a strong sign they’ll be here for years to come.”
